During your Ontario G2 road test (also known as the G1 exit test), the DriveTest examiner will evaluate your low-speed vehicle control through four mandatory maneuvers: parallel parking, the three-point turn, the roadside stop and start, and reverse stall parking.

Mastering the exact steps, observation checks, and spatial requirements for each maneuver ensures you maximize your score on test day.

1. How to Parallel Park on the G2 Test

Learning how to parallel park correctly is a major requirement for passing your G2 exam.

Step 1: Position 1-2 feet parallel alongside the target car. Align rear bumpers.
Step 2: Check 360° blind spots. Reverse straight until your rear seat aligns with target bumper.
Step 3: Lock wheel full right. Reverse into space at 45° angle until front bumper clears target.
Step 4: Lock wheel full left. Reverse back into space. Straighten wheels within 30 cm of curb.

Key Observation Checks

  • Perform a full 360-degree visual scan (checking both shoulder blind spots) before putting the vehicle in reverse.

  • Continuously scan your surroundings while backing up, rather than staring solely at a backup camera.

The Most Common Mistake

Hard curb contact. Touching the curb gently is penalized as a minor deduction, but climbing or hard-striking the curb results in an immediate test failure. Learn more about disqualifying errors in our guide on Ontario DriveTest scoring and automatic fails.

2. Executing a Perfect Three-Point Turn

A three-point turn g2 test evaluation measures your ability to reverse direction safely on a narrow residential street.

  1. Signal Right & Pull Over: Signal right, check your mirror and right blind spot, and stop parallel to the right curb.

  2. 360° Scan & Turn Left: Signal left. Perform a complete 360-degree scan for approaching traffic or pedestrians. Turn the steering wheel sharply left while moving slowly across the street toward the opposite curb.

  3. Reverse Right: Shift into reverse. Check both directions along the street. Turn the steering wheel sharply right while reversing toward the original side of the road.

  4. Drive Forward Left: Shift into drive, check traffic in both directions, and proceed forward in your new direction.

3. The Roadside Stop and Hill Park

A roadside stop ontario road test evaluation checks your adherence to basic curb parking rules and parking brake usage.

  • Pulling Over: Signal right, check your right mirror and shoulder blind spot, and cancel your signal once stopped parallel within 30 cm of the curb.

  • Securing the Vehicle: Shift into Park (or neutral with clutch for manual cars) and engage the parking brake.

  • Hill Parking Wheel Orientations:

    • Uphill with a Curb: Turn steering wheel sharply LEFT (wheels roll back into curb).

    • Uphill without a Curb / Downhill with or without a Curb: Turn steering wheel sharply RIGHT.

4. Reverse Stall Parking

Examiners frequently evaluate reverse parking Ontario standards when returning to the DriveTest parking lot at the end of the examination.

  1. Setup: Position your vehicle perpendicular to the parking space, roughly 3 to 4 feet away from the parked cars, signaling toward the space.

  2. Reference Point: Drive past your target space until your rear bumper aligns with the far line of the parking stall.

  3. Execution: Perform a full 360-degree scan, lock the wheel toward the space, and reverse slowly while monitoring both side mirrors.

  4. Final Position: Center your vehicle between the lines, shift into Park, and set your parking brake.
